I am not a true believer that bigger is necessarily better. Admittedly luck has not been with me the times I''ve skied there. I went there early season once when the conditions could best be described as muddy. I went there another time late season, when one third of the mountain was open and tickets were still full price, and had to exercise a very exaggerated pole plant style to ward away the other skiers and carve out enough space to link some short-radius turns down the mountain. And the other time I was there was during a blizzard when we had to stop short of our original destination, Stowe. Our group had varying ability levels and being unfamiliar with the mountain we were not able to take different runs and meet up at the base fearing that we might end up at different base areas. We also worked our way over to Ram''s Head just in time for the lift to shut down due to wind. We then had to take our skis off and trudge through the parking lot to get back to skiable terrain. However, I''ve met many people who swear by Killington and truth be told I would very much like to go back and experience the mountain sometime mid-week, mid-season. With six mountain peaks and over 75 miles of terrain Killington has more than something for everyone. From gentle beginner, to groomed intermediate, to bump runs, to trees and extreme, Killington has it all. Perennially, Killington''s season lasts longer than any other resort in the East; they are first to open and last to close. And for those who wish to ski all day and party all night the Killington night life is legendary. So, in summation I''d have to say that Killington is still King of the East; they are the resort that all others measure themselves against. Pack your bags and come on up!!!!
